For many, the mention of Showcase for Commerce brings to mind images of artillery parked on Napoleon Street and an arena full of high-tech military gizmos.
Members of the media and local officials swarm around the visiting dignitaries and prepare for Thursday’s press conference, announcing millions in defense contracts.
That may be the “showcase” component of this week’s annual defense business exhibition, but the “commerce” part that goes on behind the scenes is even more important for businesses about to converge on Johnstown.
This year, the expanded workshops and plenary sessions will allow local business managers to rub elbows with international defense contractors while learning the ins and outs of doing business with the federal government, Showcase leaders said. All activities are centered in the Cambria County War Memorial Arena and Pasquerilla Conference Center in the 200 block of Napoleon Street.
Showcase begins Tuesday with a daylong Government Procurement Expo for businesses. The main show opens Wednesday with the executive reception and opening reception for participating businesses and the media.
