Arizona entrepreneur Karl Eller in critical condition
Karl Eller, who built a corporate career in media and advertising, including overseeing Circle K and then launching the successful Eller Media, is in critical condition in California at Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla, a hospital spokesman said Saturday.
Eller, who turns 84 Wednesday, fell as he was getting onto his bicycle during an early-morning ride Friday, his wife, Stevie Eller, said Saturday. The couple, who have been married for 60 years, have homes in the Valley and the San Diego area.

Eller fell as he was moving the kickstand and his shoe came off, Stevie said. “He fell over with the bike onto his head and his back. He has fractures on his right side and broken bones just above and below his ear.”
The first medical scan doctors gave Eller on Friday looked bad, Stevie said, adding, “The second one four hours later was much worse.” Doctors had to drill holes in his skull to help determine the extent of his injuries and help keep down swelling.
He’s in a medically induced coma “and not doing worse, so that’s good,” she said Saturday evening. She is praying and staying close to her husband’s side, adding, “Doctors have hope, but said it’s all in God’s hands.”
