SME loan policy offers priority to women entrepreneurs
RAJSHAHI, Jun 18 (BSS): Women entrepreneurs were given priority to the Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) sector loan policy for their economic emancipation.
They were also ensured of availing all sorts of existing loan facilities for poverty reduction and overall improvement of the nation.
Deputy Governor of Bangladesh Bank (BB) Abul Kashem revealed this while addressing a view-sharing meeting with bankers of the region at the BB’s Rajshahi Branch here yesterday as the chief guest with BB local branch General Manager Zinnatul Bakeya in the chair.
The BB’s SME Division organized the meeting marking distribution of SME loans among some entrepreneurs including women.
In his keynote paper, Joint Director (SME Division) of BB Ashraful Alam dwelt on the country’s SME investment scenario and BB’s adopted strategies to promote the sector furthermore.
He told the meeting that a target has been set to disburse SME loan worth Taka 2034 crore in seven districts of the region during the current fiscal.
Deputy Governor Abul Kashem urged the attending bankers to work with the prestigious silk sector and extend financial support to the sector for its revitalization. He urged them to be more proactive for the best uses of its existing potentialities.
Terming the SME sector as labour-intensive, he viewed that its successful promotion could be the effective means of alleviating poverty, generating employment and thereby accelerating economic growth.
