Cloud Utility, SaaS Use Rising as Hype Starts to Fade
The hype surrounding cloud computing has started to taper off, which means one of two things: the technology has either gone under or it’s going mainstream. With no shortage of cloud providers (both public and private), it’s safe to say that the technology is in no danger of failing, and despite recent power issues with cloud services like Amazon’s, cloud utility is on the rise.
That IT admins don’t see white papers and press releases about how well other companies are doing with cloud computing doesn’t speak so much to its inability, but rather the ever-present drive to keep great IT deployments under wraps. Successful cloud transitions are viewed almost like trade secrets rather than great news to share with the world. Nonetheless, spending on software as a service (Saas) is on the rise and big tech companies are throwing their hats into the cloud-provider ring. The move from outsider to omnipresent has begun.
