Employers post most jobs in four years: United States businesses posted 3.8 million job openings in June, the most postings since the summer of 2008, slightly above the 3.7 million openings listed in May, according to the latest data from the Labor Department.
Small business optimism sinks: Small business owners’ spirits dropped during the second quarter of the year in the wake of a slowing economic recovery, according to a new survey released by Wells Fargo. The dip erased most of the gains made earlier this year.

Bernanke downplaying economic role of student debt: During a town hall meeting in Washington on Tuesday, Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke said record student loan debt doesn’t pose nearly the same threat to the overall financial system and the economic recovery as, say, the mortgage debt fallout, largely because the former debt is primarily backed by the government.
