Small Businesses in Iowa

MASON CITY, IA – As the Presidential election draws closer, both Republican and Democratic candidates are finding support from specific groups. Both sides are working hard on local levels to show voters what their policies would mean to them.

Tom Hurd and Mike O’Brien each own a small business. They’re also both a part of the “Small Businesses for Obama council.”

Owner of Special Design Architects, Tom Hurd said, “His programs have really helped. His support of renewable energy has been very very good, because we all know they create a lot of jobs – wind and solar jobs in the state of Iowa as well as around the country.”

They believe that President Obama’s vision for the middle-class, which consists of investing in start ups, expanding access to loans, and cutting taxes for small businesses has helped them.

Owner of Advanced Biological Technologies, Michael O’Brien said, “I would really like to applaud him on the “Affordable Health care” act again, just for the fact that a lot of the issues that companies face, whether you’re a small business personally or whether its your staff and your employees, has helped a lot as far as kids being covered for pre- existing conditions and also for even the cost of health care.”
