According to President Obama; Donald Trump is a small business! What is a Small Business? Whose definition do we use? Is the Small Business Administration’s definition the right term? Is it a tax filing status? Is it a business that is independently owned and operated?
It is a great sound bite to demonize all small businesses by saying Donald Trump is a small business, just like saying Warren Buffet’s secretary pays a higher tax rate than Warren Buffet. Politics does strange things to people and definitions.
It is important not to politicize the definition of what a small business is. If you use The Small Business Administration’s, a United States Government Agency, definition, small business would not include Donald Trump. Donald Trump could not qualify for a government guaranteed SBA loan to buy an office building, golf course or apartment building. He could not pass the liquidity test to qualify either.
The President wants to demonize small business, as they tend to lean toward smaller government and tend to file their taxes as individuals instead of incorporating as C- corps. Small businesses are the entrepreneurs and typically create the most jobs according to the government agency responsible for small business and their researchers.
Maybe the President should focus on tax reform and stop trying to politicize small business and the tax
