Fire in Smithfield damages small business

Smithfield, RI — A small business at 69 Farnum Pike sustained heavy damage Sunday morning in a fire.

Smithfield Deputy Fire Chief James Grenga said he does not know the name of the business, as there were no signs outside the building. However, it appeared to be an artist or painter’s shop, he said. Paintings were inside and among the items damaged, he said.

Firefighters were called to the scene around 6:30 a.m. Sunday, and they had the fire under control quickly but continued work at the site for about two hours, Grenga said.

No one was in the building at the time of the fire, and no one sustained any injuries, Grenga said.
